Val will be speaking about claims with specific attention to underwriting actions and documentation and how these are scrutinized during litigation. Val is Chief Underwriter at VM Insurance Consulting, a firm she established following 47 years in life underwriting, the last 30 years with Allstate Life as a Chief Underwriter. Val consults on underwriting issues and concerns, procedures, policies and contestable claims. Val has worked with a number of carriers as an Expert Witness and balances her time between her underwriting consulting and as founder of her law firm, VMvdW Law, P.C.

New Drugs and Therapeutics – Matt Glasgow, Clinical Consultant for Milliman Intelliscript
Matt draws on experience working with patients as a clinical pharmacist, as well as making formulary decisions for a health plan-two different perspective. Both of which are valuable in his role as Clinical Consultant for Milliman Intelliscript. He educates Intelliscripts clients on the optimal use of our decision support products while ensuring that results are based on up-to-date information and current clinical practices. In his free time Matt enjoys spending time outside, attending concerts, and exploring new restaurants near his home in Chicago.
Financial Underwriting Review – Mike Happold, 2nd VP Munich Re
Mike is a Second Vice President of Underwriting Services for Munich Re. He has over 30 years of business experience in the financial services and insurance industry. He has worked both on the direct and reinsurance side of the life industry. He has held varying roles in his 24+ years at Munich Re, currently responsible for managing their facultative underwriting services, which includes their Super Pool program that supports the large case market.
He holds a B.A. in Economics from Illinois State University. He is a current Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting, Fellow of the Life Management Institute, Associate of the Financial Services Institute and a former Life & Health and Series 7 license holder.
